Jake Roberts Likes Snakes...Even Though One Almost Killed Him

September 3, 2020

Many people who watch WWE understand the dangers involved when their beloved superstars compete in the squared circle.

However, few faced much greater danger than WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts.

Known for famously bringing the reptiles he drew his nickname from into the ring with him, Roberts faced his fair share of dangerous encounters with the snakes, as discussed on the most recent episode of theChris Van Vliet show.

Roberts brought up an incident where an escaped snake caused him and former superstar Jim Brunzell much stress in their own hotel room.

“Jim Brunzell and I shared a room one night, he was terrified of the snake, now I don’t know what happened if I accidentally left the bathroom door open or something maybe,” Roberts said.

“During the night the snake got out and crawled across his face, Jim could not get me awake and so I wake up the next morning at about two o’clock after nine or ten hours of great sleep and to see Jim Brunzell sitting up on the back of a chair and doing this, I’m like ‘what are you doing?’”

Upon finding the snake, Roberts had told Brunzell to put it back in the bathroom where it was originally being kept.

“He couldn’t do it, that was the last time we shared a room,” Roberts said.

Roberts’ risky encounters didn’t stop there, as he brought up another time where fellow Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat had to rescue him.

“I had a snake attack me in Indianapolis that got around my neck and the last thing I remember, it only took two or three seconds it was like car lights were coming at me.”

When pythons constrict a human neck, they cut off blood flow to the brain which cause someone to pass out rather quickly. Luckily forRoberts, Steamboat was nearby to get the snake off.

“I’m like ‘what the heck?’ and then I went down and steamboat took him off of me or I’d have been dead.”
