The X-Factor That Could Win The Chicago Cubs Another Title

September 28, 2020

For the teams that got lucky enough to head to this year's postseason, it will be crucial for each to find their x-factor if they hope for any chance at walking away from this asterisked season as a champion.

On yesterday's edition of Cubs Related, Brendan Miller and Corey Freedman reflect on their team's unprecedented season and take a step back to look at what went right throughout their 60-game journey. After clinching yet another NL Central title this weekend, it's obvious there's a certain chemistry among this Chicago team.

There's a lot of factors that could go into the Cub’s success over the last few seasons, but according to the duo, their secret weapon remains within the team's culture and their unwavering support from the dugout.

An energy so prevalent, in fact, they consistently received complaints from their opponents and may have been thrown at one or two times because of it.

"It's a testament to the environment [David] Ross promoted," Brendan said. "It's a testament to the actual players and the actual prospects." (8:00).

As a team that has, for the most part, stayed as a unit since they broke a 108-year-old curse after winning the 2016 World Series against the Indians, it's easy to see why they may have a significant presence within the stadium. Especially when the only thing to drown them out is an automated machine running on a loop of cheering fans.

They have a dynamic that goes far beyond a highly talented roster, and it's clear when you watch their games that they are doing all they can to keep up morale no matter the situation they're in.

Although the postseason is a completely different ball game (literally), Chicago's ability to stay engaged within a game can only prove beneficial to them as they embark on the road to another title. Especially with the uncertainty of future contracts looming over their heads, it may be that excitement and energy that gets them the chance to fly that W flag just a few more times.
