Giant's O-Line In Trouble After Underwhelming Performance Against Steelers

September 15, 2020

Pittsburgh's notorious "Steel Curtain" made an epic appearance last night in their season opener against the New York Giants. Although, in retrospect, it wasn't all that hard to do for a Steelers defense who was up against a less than impressive Giants O-line.

On today's Big Blue Banter episode, Dan Schneier and Nick Falato break down last night's matchup and chalk up the loss to inefficient production from NY's offensive line. Every attempt Saquon Barkley had was immediately met in the backfield by a Pittsburgh defender ready to completely shut down the team's key offensive weapon. Barkley ended the game with only six yards in his 15 carries.

The duo references former guest and NFL Draft expert, Jon Ledyard, who tweeted that he "Can't recall watching run blocking that poor before in the NFL."

The "anemic" rushing attack out of the Giants is partially due to a new interior O-line, who quickly became a liability to the run game. Free-agent pick-up Cam Fleming and previous third-string tackle Nick Gates didn't have a strong first performance after only allowing their team 29 rushing yards on 20 attempts.

“From some of the plays that I saw and some of the just ineffectiveness of that offensive line, ineffective nature of being able to establish the run, it is not pretty.” Nick said. (13:00).

Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett will have to find his line's functionality if the team wants to utilize their ground weapons and not have to resort to a Daniel Jones quick pass.
